Moving from ZooEasy to Newbred

How the move works

Newbred imports Excel sheets (.xlsx) and CSV files from any program. For every column you choose which field it fills: ring number, sex, date of birth, species, colours, mutations, father, mother, notes and a few more. Column names in Dutch, French, German and English are recognised and suggested for you, so columns named, for example, ring number, date of birth, father or mother are matched straight away.

If you cannot get your bird list out of your current program as Excel or CSV, create a free account and send us a message through Support in the app. We will look at your situation with you rather than leave you to retype everything.

What comes across

Every row becomes a bird with its ring number, sex, dates, species, colours, mutations and notes. Parents are linked by ring number when the father and mother are in the same file or already in your account, so the pedigree is rebuilt from those links. Breeding pairs, clutches and other history are not imported; they start fresh in Newbred.

Step by step

   Get your bird list out

   Export or copy your bird list to an Excel workbook (.xlsx), or else a CSV file, with one row of column names and one row per bird. Keep the father and mother as ring numbers.

   Upload the file and match the columns

   In Newbred, open Import/Export and add the file. Check the suggested field for each column, choose which species each value in your species column stands for, and start the import.

   Check the result

   You see how many birds were added and skipped, which rows failed and why, and for which birds a parent could not be linked. Fix those rows and import the file again: birds whose ring number already exists are skipped, so only the missing ones are added.
